Retro Computing --My monitor recommendation for Commodore 64C Owners

Posted by Maestro Game VIP on Tuesday, June 30, 2015

I am into Retro computing and retro gaming and the Commodore 64 is at the heart of it all!

Those of us who are getting back to retro gaming will run into problems finding a old style Commodore 1702 or 1802 CRT monitor as they are not readily available and will want to find a way
to hook up their 64 system to a modern display.

The Commodore 64 (bread bin) model can just plug their 5 pin Din cable to the composite port of a modern HDTV without problems.

For the Commodore 64C, the standard composite cable won't work on composite ports on modern tv because the video signal is split into 2-- Chroma and Luma and we will need a special custom Svideo cable to use our 64C system with a modern HDTV or LCD monitor that has a S-Video Port.

1.  Commodore 64C uses a 8 pin Din cable with Chroma, Luma, and mono audio--

if You plan on hooking it up to a modern LCD/LCDTV get a custom 8 pin Din cable to S-Video.

I recommend this cable:

it is a 8 pin Din cable to S-Video with right and left audio (mono).

Currently it is $16 on eBay.

2. Avoid VGA to S-Video converters

I got a Rainbow on the top of my screen and display glitches

3. I am using a Dell 24" 2405fpw LCD and it works without problems! Works perfectly with my Commodore 64C hooked up via S-Video.

I recommend the Dell 24" 2405fpw LCD for use with the Commodore 64C.

I got lucky and got it for $15 from a generous seller on Craigslist.
